“ NINGEN “ is a device, which converts human movement into sound.
“ NINGEN “ is an expressive tool, which Miss Shino Matumura produced.

With a sensor of the movements of wires (speed and moving distance of each direction), sends the dates transformed into MIDI signal to the computer. Max/MSP programs of computer using.
In 2005, we created a performance called “ NINGEN “. We connected the device to each dancer with 8 separate wires. Each time the dancer moved, the device emitted a sound.
Miss Shino Matsumura and Miss Miho Osoda also combine their voices with the sounds
produced by the NINGEN device.Soon after, Miss Chika Kawamoto joined as a voice performer to form the team now known as
“ Fonomo“.
“ Fonomo“ has performed in Tokyo and Amsterdam.
Recently, percussionist Kunihiko Saito and PA Yuichi Tamura joined the group as new members.
Miss Shino Matumura and Miss Chika Kawamoto, who previously were doing voice performance only,
now participate in all aspects of the performance.
They fuse their voice with their dance to create the sounds.
They attach importance to the connection between human and the device.
Two people who are connecting it with string. Own movement influences it, and not only the transform doing and,
in a word, other movement also influences the sound.
When two relations are converted into a sound, what kind of thing will happen......?
Thanks to Mr Satoru Higa, who developed the system, and Miss Miho Osoda,
who designed the dances.
Thanks to everyone who supported this project and helped to express our musical ideas to the world.
